"Why Blog?"

"Why Blog?"

What is the value to me?
What are some of the challenges?
Where do I get inspiration from?
How do I make it easier for myself?

Yesterday I had the honour to present to my peers at one of our dinner meetings. I shared the presentation below:

Why Blog?

As I approach my 7th year as a blogger, I can truly say that blogging has transformed me as an educator and a learner. It is the best, ongoing professional development that I could ever ask for, and it is there whenever I need it.

How can you use a blog to enhance your learning?

  1. Hi David,
your presentation above describes perfectly the way I work, how I draft and write my own blog and even more important why I write a blog. I wrote a blog during my travelings but I just started few weeks ago writing for professional learning. It isn’t work, it’s a passion. Sometimes I feel still uncomfortable, especially writing in English because I’m not an English native speaker. Anyways, maybe I find some time to create something similar like your presentation. Just to convincing people how enriching and inspiring blogging is. V.

  2. Hi David! I am a student in EDM310 at the University of South Alabama. I enjoyed your presentation on blogging and believe it to be a great resource to share with my classmates. We were required to create a personal blog at the beginning of the semester and this is where I had to “loose the fear…take the leap”. Once you take that step, you are introduced to a whole new world of learning and possibilities. Because I am studying to be a teacher, I have spent most of my blog time learning and searching for connections. As I was browsing through the titles of your recent posts, there are several that I look forward to reading. I think they will be helpful as I journey toward becoming a future high school educator. I welcome any other suggestions that you feel would be helpful to new teachers. Thank you for sharing your presentation.

    1. Hi Tonya,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I took a quick look at your blog (and I’ll head over and share a comment after writing this). It looks like you are doing a great job reflecting on your learning. My only suggestion would be to choose blog titles that are relevant to the posts (‘Pencil Integration’ or ‘The Right Tools’ could be more inviting than ‘Blog Post #10’)
Other than that, here are some blog posts that I think are relevant to student teachers: https://www.diigo.com/user/datruss/studentteacher
There is a lot there… just pick a title or two that you like and read those.
      Cheers,
      Dave
